Getting hold of us
Phone, message or book — and what to have ready
Phone, message, or book — and which to use when
Phone if somebody is stuck behind a gate, if a property is standing open, or if a gate has been forced. Those are the situations where minutes matter and a vehicle can be dispatched while you are still talking. An emergency gate repair is answered around the clock.
Message if you want a price on something that has not failed yet, or if you are trying to work out whether anything needs doing at all. Photographs answer more than five minutes of description, and they mean the figure quoted is the figure that holds.
Book if you already know what you want and would rather pay the daytime rate — a service before the rains, a gate motor installation on a gate that has reached the end, or a look at a gate that has started sounding different.
What to have ready when you call
Four things, and none of them takes long. Whether the gate is sliding or swinging, and roughly how big it is. What the motor does when you press the remote — nothing at all, a hum without movement, or a start that reverses partway. Whether the gate moves freely by hand on its manual release. And whether you are behind a boom, in an estate or in a complex, and who can authorise a technician at the entrance.
That last one is the single biggest thing you can do to shorten the wait. On an estate or a complex the authorisation is frequently the longer half of the total time, and it can run while the technician is already driving if we know about it in the first minute.
And say in the first sentence if somebody is trapped or the property is standing open. It changes the order calls are handled in.
Photographs answer more than descriptions do
For anything that has not failed outright, three pictures settle most of the diagnosis: the motor and its housing, the point where the gate meets its track or its hinges, and the safety beams at their brackets.
One sentence about what changed completes it. A gate that has slowly become slower over a season is a different job from one that stopped between Tuesday and Wednesday, and knowing which puts the right parts on the vehicle rather than requiring a second visit.
