About us

A specialist team, not a call centre.

Sandton Gate Motor Pro was founded to fix a very specific problem: too many Johannesburg homeowners were being sold new gate motors when a repair would have done the job — and being charged callout fees for technicians who never turned up. We built a small, tightly-run team of licensed gate automation specialists who do things differently: honest diagnostics, firm quotes before work starts, genuine manufacturer parts on the van, and a written 12-month workmanship warranty on every job.

We're based in Sandton and work daily across Sandton, Randburg, Midrand and Centurion. We know the streets, we know the estates, and we know the brands — Centurion, ET Nice, Gemini, Hansa, DTS and BFT — because we work on them every single day.

What you are actually buying from a gate motor company

Four things, and none of them is the brand on the motor. Whether the technician is insured for work on your property. Whether the part is on the van or a week away. Whether the person who answers the phone is the person who manages the job. And whether the price you were told is the price you are invoiced.

What we get called out for

Three faults that account for most of the work

Described as they actually run on site, rather than as customer quotes. Two of the three are cheaper than most people expect, and the first one is not the motor at all.

A sliding gate that stops halfway

Almost always the safety beams rather than the motor. Dust on a lens, a spider in the housing, or a bracket knocked out of line by a delivery van, and the gate reverses because it believes something is in the way. Ten minutes to diagnose, and the motor everybody blamed turns out to be fine.

A gate that hums but does not move

The motor is getting power and the drive is not reaching the gate. On a sliding gate that is usually a sheared pinion, a stripped nylon gear, or a rack that has worked loose along its run. On a swing gate it is the arm or its mounting. Either way it is a part rather than a new installation, and the price belongs in your hand before anything comes apart.

A remote that works from two metres and no further

Range collapses gradually and a household adapts to it without noticing, until the morning it stops entirely. The cause is usually a receiver drifting out of code, a corroded aerial, or a transmitter that has taken one drop too many. It is the cheapest visit on this list and the one most often left for months.

Why us

What a gate motor company is actually selling

The brand on the motor matters less than the fit

Four things, and none of them is the brand on the motor. Whether the technician is insured to work on your property. Whether the part is on the van or a week away. Whether the person who answers the phone is the person who manages the job. And whether the price you were told is the price you are invoiced.

The brand matters far less than most quotes imply. Centurion, ET Nice, Gemini, Hansa, DTS and BFT are all capable units, and every one of them fails early when it is fitted to a gate it was never sized for. What decides the life of an installation is whether somebody measured the gate, looked at the track, and specified against how often it will actually open.

That is the whole of our pitch. We are a mobile gate motor repair and installation business working Sandton, Randburg, Midrand and Centurion, and the thing we try to be better at than the alternative is diagnosis — because the money in this trade is lost on the wrong repair rather than on the price of the right one.

The things we will tell you that cost us the job

That the work can wait until a weekday morning and cost less. That the motor on your gate is better made than the replacement somebody has quoted for. That the fault is the track rather than the mechanism, which is an adjustment rather than a purchase.

That you are outside the area and would be better served by somebody closer. That the job needs a fabricator, a civils contractor or an electrician rather than us. And that nothing needs doing yet, which is the most common of the six.

None of that is generosity. In a trade where most work arrives by recommendation, a callout charged for a problem we could not solve is the fastest way to lose the next three.

What we do not do

We do not replace gate motor batteries. We are a mobile repair and installation service and battery work is not part of it — better to hear that on the phone than at your gate.

We do not install or service alarms, cameras or electric fencing. Where a gate has failed rather than its motor — a frame warped past adjustment, a broken concrete track base — that is a fabricator or a civils job.

What we do is gates: motors, tracks, racks, arms, hinges, safety beams, remotes, intercom systems and access control, across all four areas, every day of the week.
