Gates on a gradient
Gravity assists the gate one way and fights it the other, so the motor sees two different loads on a single cycle and wears unevenly.
The gate closes fast and opens reluctantly, or labours at the same end every time. It reads as a failing motor and it is a specification that ignored the slope.
On a slider the fix is nearly always the rail: laid level along its own run even where the driveway falls away beneath it.
Water running downhill
On a slope, rain carries grit down the driveway and deposits it in the track at the low end. Where the fault turns out to be the motor itself, that is ordinary gate motor repair work rather than anything exotic.
That is why sliding gates here frequently develop trouble at one end rather than evenly along the run, and why clearing the low end of the track matters more than the rest.
Exposure and wind
The ridge above is open, and gates on this slope take real wind load. On a swing gate that works pivots loose over years; on a slider it pushes the gate against one side of its track.
