Halfway House is the older core of Midrand, and it carries a mix nothing else in the area does: original residential streets, the light-industrial belt around Grand Central, and newer townhouse blocks dropped in between them. Three kinds of gate, three kinds of failure.
Industrial gates around Grand Central
The commercial belt here runs long, heavy sliding gates on yards that operate to a schedule, and they fail on that schedule.
A yard gate does hundreds of cycles a day for deliveries, staff and vehicles. Wear arrives predictably — pinions and gears first, limits second — and the failure lands at the end of a shift, which is when the gate is finally asked to close on a yard full of stock. On the older industrial stock here the gate is frequently newer than the electrical installation feeding it, and that is where a surprising number of faults live.
A supply that was adequate for the original workshop, extended twice since, with the gate spurred off whatever was closest. The symptom is a gate that behaves differently at different times of day, or one that trips something when it starts under load.
That is not a gate fault and no gate part fixes it. It gets identified during diagnosis and named honestly, because the alternative is replacing a perfectly good motor.

The failure lands at a shift change, because that is the moment of heaviest use. And the repair has to happen either between shifts or during one, which is a scheduling conversation rather than a technical one. Deciding who may open the gate, and being able to withdraw it, is access control.
Sites that plan for this — an agreed window, an authorised contact, and a keyholder reachable at that hour — lose far less production to a gate than sites that improvise it.
